There is no one in Bangladesh who has not heard the name of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. His name is familiar to all the Bangalees. He is remembered because we became independent under his leadership. For this, we call him the father of the nation. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was born at Tongipara, Gopalganj on March 17, 1920. His father was Sheikh Lutfur Rahman and his mother's name was Shaira Khatun. His parents named him Khoka. Khoka was the third of six children of his parents. Sheikh Mujib got his primary education Giniadanga. He passed the Matriculation Examination in 1942 from Missionary High School. He passed his B.A. Examination in 1947 from Islamia College, Calcutta. Sheikh Mujib was the Law student of Dhaka University.
In 1949, Sheikh Mujib became the Joint Secretary of Awami Muslim League. He took part in the Language Movement and he was sent to jail in 1952. In 1954 he was the cabinet minister of A. K. Fazlul Haque. In 1966 he demanded the six points for which the then president of Pakistan Field Martial Ayub Khan filed Agartala Conspiracy Case (). But the people of then East Pakistan demonstrated strongly and he was released. In 1970, the Awami League won the majority seats for the National Assembly. General Yahia Khan, the then the president of Pakistan made another conspiracy. As a result the people of this zone took part in Liberation War under the guidance and leadership of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. He was arrested and a trial was formed in West Pakistan. After nine months' war, Bangladesh became free on the 16th December 1971. He was released and returned to his own land on the 10th January, 1972.
Sheikh Mujib was the first president of Bangladesh. He presented us a new constitution and became the Prime Minister. In 1974, he became the President of Bangladesh. The countrymen entitled him Bangabandhu in 1969. The father of our nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was assassinated () by some of misleading army officers. On the night of August 15, 1975 some misleading officers attacked his house at 32, Dhanmondi road and killed all his family members except
Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana, his two daughters. They had been in a foreign country at that time. People of Bangladesh will never forget this great leader.
