২৩। of charging extra fares from passengers-যাত্রীদের কাছ থেকে অতিরিক্ত ভাড়া নেয়ার; 

২৪। the owners are now saying that-মালিকরা এখন বলছে যে; 

২৫। they would charge the passengers previous fares-তারা পূর্বের ভাড়া নিবে যাত্রীদের থেকে; 

২৬। if they are allowed to  run at full capacity-তারা যদি পূর্ণ আসনে যাত্রী নিয়ে বাস চালানোর অনুমতি পায়; 

২৭। But allowing "full-scale" movement-তবে পূর্ণ মাত্রায় চলাচলের অনুমতি;

৫৫। and also did not keep the required number of seats  vacant in a bus-এবং বাসে প্রয়োজনীয় সংখ্যক আসন ফাকা রাখা হয়নি;

৫৯। Although BRTA took some steps-যদিও বিআরটিএ কতিপয়/কিছু পদক্ষেপ/ব্যবস্থা নিয়েছ (নিয়েছিল); 

৬০। against the non-compliant bus  operators-না মানা বাস চালকদের বিরুদ্ধে; অনমনশীল বাস চালকদের বিরুদ্ধে; 

৬১। and fined them for charging extra fares-এবং অতিরিক্ত ভাড়া নেয়ার জন্য তাদেরকে জরিমানা করে (করেছিল); 

৬২। we wonder -আমরা অবাক হচ্ছি; 

৬৩। what has  been done to make sure-নিশ্চিত করতে কী করছে; 

৬৪। they follow the health safety guidelines-তারা স্বাস্থ্য নিরাপত্তা নির্দেশনা মেনে চলে; 

৬৫। Clearly-স্পষ্টত; 

৬৬। public buses have played a big role -সরকারি বাসগুলো/গণ-পরিবহন বড় ধরণের ভূমিকা রাখছে; 

৬৭। in increasing the spread of  the virus-ভাইরাসের বিস্তার বৃদ্ধিতে; 

৬৮। particularly in the capital-বিশেষকরে রাজধানীতে; 

৬৯। as they have hardly followed  any safety guidelines-কারণ তারা কোনো রকম নিরাপত্তা নির্দেশনা অনুসরণ করেনি বললেই চলে; 

৭০। And now if the bus owners-আর এখন যদি বাস মালিকেরা; 

৭১। run their vehicles-তাদের যানবাহন চালায়; 

৭২। at full capacity-পূর্ণ আসনে; পূর্ণ ধারণক্ষমতায়; 

৭৩। there  is no doubt that-কোনো সন্দেহ নেই যে; 

৭৪। the coronavirus situation in the country-দেশের করোনাভাইরাস পরিস্থিতি; 

৭৫। will get  worse-আরো খারাপের দিকে যাবে; 

৭৬। No matter-বিষয় না; 

৭৭। how many directives are issued by the government-কীভাবে অনেক নির্দেশনা সরকার জারি করেছে; 

৭৮। about  maintaining health safety guidelines-স্বাস্থ্য নিরাপত্তা নির্দেশনা বজায় রাখার ব্যাপারে; 

৭৯। those will be useless-ঐগুলিসব অর্থহীন/মূল্যহীন হবে; 

৮০। unless the  government can ensure-যদিনা সরকার নিশ্চিত করতে পারে; 

৮১। their proper implementation-সেগুলির যথাযথ বাস্তবায়ন; 

৮২। Needless to say-বলার অপেক্ষা রাখে না; 

৮৩। the  risk of spreading the virus-ভাইরাস ছড়িয়ে পড়ার ঝুকি; 

৮৪। will be high -উচ্চ/বেশি হবে; 

৮৫। in overcrowded buses-গাদাগাদি গাসে; ভিড়ে ঠাসা বাসে;

৮৬। Thus-সুতরাং; 

৮৭। we  expect-আমরা প্রত্যাশা করি; 

৮৮। a well-thought-out decision-একটি সুচিন্তিত সিদ্ধান্ত; 

৮৯। from the government-সরকারের পক্ষ থেকে; 

৯০। regarding -ব্যাপারে; 

৯১। the bus  owners' demand-বাস মালিকদের দাবি;

We are concerned at the bus owners' wish to operate their vehicles at  full capacity at a time when the number of new infections and deaths  from Covid-19 is still on the rise in the country. Bangladesh Road  Transport Owners Association (BRTOA) has made this demand to the  government claiming that the Covid-19 situation is getting back to  normal here. Since there have been allegations against the bus operators  of charging extra fares from passengers, the owners are now saying that  they would charge the passengers previous fares if they are allowed to  run at full capacity. But allowing "full-scale" movement of public  transport would further increase the transmission of the deadly virus,  according to the health experts.

When the services of public transport resumed on June 1, after more  than two months of suspension, the road transport and bridges ministry  gave specific directives to the operators on how they should operate.  The bus fare was increased by 60 percent on conditions that bus  operators would carry passengers at half their capacity and that they  would not carry any standing passengers. The ministry circular also  mentioned that health safety guidelines would have to be maintained by  all. Sadly, these directives were hardly followed by the bus operators.

Reportedly, many of them charged the passengers more than 60 percent  of the previous fare and also did not keep the required number of seats  vacant in a bus, meaning that physical distancing guidelines were not  followed. Although BRTA took some steps against the non-compliant bus  operators and fined them for charging extra fares, we wonder what has  been done to make sure they follow the health safety guidelines.  Clearly, public buses have played a big role in increasing the spread of  the virus, particularly in the capital, as they have hardly followed  any safety guidelines.

And now if the bus owners run their vehicles at full capacity, there  is no doubt that the coronavirus situation in the country will get  worse. No matter how many directives are issued by the government about  maintaining health safety guidelines, those will be useless unless the  government can ensure their proper implementation. Needless to say, the  risk of spreading the virus will be high in overcrowded buses. Thus, we  expect a well-thought-out decision from the government regarding the bus  owners' demand.
