Bangladesh is a land of natural beauty. Its beauty is enhanced with the growth and blooming of flowers. Our country is enriched by a variety of beautiful flowers. They have variety in colour, shape and size. Red, white, yellow, pink, blue and orange coloured flowers charm our eyes and soothe our hearts. Some flowers have fragrance and some have no scent. Many flowers are seasonal. But some flowers are available in all seasons. The most remarkable flowers in Bangladesh are the rose, the marigold the champa, the jasemine, the tagor, the jui, the bakul, the beli, the chameli, the kamini, the shefali, the lotus, the lily etc. The rose is the e queen of flowers.
Different kinds of roses grow in Bangladesh. Some roses are white, some are red, some are pink and some are black. Rose was imported from Iran to Bangladesh. Now it is a popular flower in Bangladesh. The marigold has a golden colour. It grows only in winter. It has no pungent smell but its bright colour attracts the people. The champa has a golden hue which fascinates every one. Its sweet fragrance flows through the breeze of spring. The bakul blooms in the summer. The gandharaj blooms in the rainy season. The rajanigandha, the gandharaj and the shandhamalati bloom at night and scatter their sweet smell to the night air. The jui, bely and kamini are all of white colours. They also have sweet fragrance. The sheuli comes at the advent of autumn. Its petals are snow-white but its stem is yellowish. Its colour and smell charm us.
The krishnachura, the palash, the karabi, and the kadam bloom in summer and in the rainy season. They have no scent. They bloom in clusters. The jaba blooms throughout the whole year. The sunflower blooms in the rainy season. The lotus and lily bloom in autumn. The lotus and lily are grown in stagnant water of canal, lake, brook, stream etc. Water lily is our national flower.
Flowers are symbol of purity and sacredness. They are used for decoration of houses. We make garlands, bouquets and offer them to show our respect and love. Rose water and scent are made of flowers. Bees collect honey from flowers. So we get honey from flowers. Now a days flowers have become very popular. In big cities and towns, there are many floral shops which sell flowers, garlands, bouquets. Flowers are now cultivated in different parts of our country on commercial basis. If we can increase the production of flowers, we can export them to foreign countries and earn foreign currency.
